The Chinese wearable market welcomes its largest quarterly shipment volume since 2022

On September 18th, IDC released the Q2 2023 China Wearable Market Report, which showed that the total shipment of wearable devices in China was 33.5 million units in Q2, a year-on-year increase of 17.3%, the largest quarterly shipment since 2022. Although it has not yet recovered to the shipment level of 2021, the overall market is showing a recovery state.
Looking at the three subcategories, the shipment volume of smart watches in China in the second quarter was 9.42 million units, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%. Among them, 4.77 million units of children's smart watches were shipped, a year-on-year increase of 12.5%, and 4.65 million units of adult smart watches were shipped, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%;
The shipment volume of wristbands in China in the second quarter was 4.63 million units, a year-on-year increase of 20.9%;
The shipment of ear worn devices in China in the second quarter was 19.33 million units, a year-on-year increase of 19.5% (the shipment of true wireless earphones was 15.11 million units, a year-on-year increase of 18.6%).
According to previous data from IDC, the shipment volume of China's wearable device market in Q1 and Q2 of 2022 was 25.84 million and 28.57 million units, respectively. In Q1 of 2023, the shipment volume was 24.71 million units. Based on this calculation, the shipment volume of China's wearable device market in the first half of this year was 58.21 million units, an increase of 7% year-on-year.
It is worth mentioning that IDC also released a report in July this year stating that it is expected that global wearable device shipments will recover and rebound in 2023 after the first contraction in 2022, reaching 504.1 million units.
